May 5, 2025

The Hydroflux Group, in partnership with the Australian Sustainability Business Group (ASBG), is presenting a full-day workshop on Wastewater System Design and Management on May 28 at The Glen Hotel, Brisbane.

This practical workshop will help managers and operators gain a clearer understanding of wastewater treatment systems and how to run them effectively. It covers the key treatment processes, local regulatory obligations, and how to select the right equipment across different industrial applications. The session also focuses on practical strategies to improve system performance through proper operation and maintenance.

What the course will cover:

  • Overview of Urban Utilities’ Trade Waste policy and agreement processes
  • Environmental Authority discharge limits and compliance with the 2018 Australian Water Quality Guidelines (AWQG)
  • Cleaner production practices to reduce load on treatment systems

Treatment systems and topics include:

  • Preliminary treatment: Screening and flow balancing
  • Physical separation: DAF, settling systems, filtration, dewatering, RO, sludge handling
  • Biological treatment: Activated sludge processes, aerobic vs anaerobic systems
  • Chemical treatment: Coagulants, flocculants, and filter aids
  • Sludge management: Dewatering strategies to reduce disposal costs
  • Carbon reduction: Opportunities for emissions reduction and cost savings
  • Solid and liquid waste management: Reducing waste volumes and disposal expenses

The seminar will feature expert speakers from Urban Utilities, Hydroflux, and ASBG, followed by an interactive workshop to guide attendees through real-world wastewater treatment challenges and solutions.
